Here’s everything you need to know about the significance of your skincare product’s ingredients

Just like the fashion industry- skincare trends tend to come and go. Now, whether it’s due to quarantine or the recent increase in remote jobs, the focus in the beauty industry has begun to shift from having the perfect makeup look to having the perfect skincare routine.

Just like the fashion industry- skincare trends tend to come and go. Now, whether it’s due to quarantine or the recent increase in remote jobs, the focus in the beauty industry has begun to shift from having the perfect makeup look to having the perfect skincare routine.Since most of us are still wearing face coverings, it’s pretty counterproductive to spend so much time and energy on makeup products- just to have them transfer to your mask! Instead, people are now more interested in having glowy skin that shines from within. The most recent popular trend has been to have “glass-skin”, which basically refers to having skin that looks clear, poreless, and luminous- like a piece of glass. And to achieve this, skincare companies have been prioritizing products such as essences, glow oils, moisturizing masks, and hydrating mists.

When it comes down to the actual ingredients skincare companies are using, it’s usually either a humectant or an emollient. Both work to increase hydration and give off the look of well-moisturized skin, but they do have a few differences. Humectants tend to be lighter in texture and are absorbed more quickly by the skin; some examples are: hyaluronic acid and glycerin. Emollients, on the other hand, are much thicker and work to prevent the loss of moisture; some examples are: petrolatum (vaseline/aquaphor), lanolin, mineral oil, and dimethicone. Besides these, it’s also well known that asian skincare brands tend to use more innovative and unique ingredients that might be unknown to the American consumer. For example: snail mucus, egg yolks, etc.,

One such company that immediately comes to mind is Eastsuperstar, which is an innovative skincare brand that truly prioritizes how consumers feels when using their products. Their special ingredient Ganoderma Lucidem has been used in ancient Chinese recipes to revitalize & nourish the skin. Additionally, the extract has also been known to be an immunomodulator by boosting the immune system. Their Oxygen Eye Patch, in specific, has long lasting oxygen therapy which is incredibly beneficial for reducing eye bags and diminishing the look of fine lines.

What I like about Eastsuperstar as a brand is how it utilizes a traditionally proven ingredient in a contemporary manner. I also appreciate that ESS’s products are very well thought out. From the design and shape of the eye patches, the natural fragrance, to the brand’s consistent message of cultivating your inner beauty first. All this enhances the user experience of wearing the eye patch and impacts them on a deeper level than just the physical.
